GREek Translations from Latin
GRETL may be searched by Greek or Latin keyword. Greek should be entered using a unicode font. The search is case insensitive and will accommodate Latin u and v spellings.
- Some database entries have no established Latin equivalent listed for a particular Greek term. Sometimes more passages can be found by first performing a search for a Latin word and then performing searches for Greek terms that the first search identifies.
- The database contains a representative sampling of each author's usage; it does not supply an exhaustive list of every instance that occurs. Once the various translations of a particular term have been identified a complete list and a sense of the relative frequency within various authors can be generated by searching the Thesaurus Linguae Graecae.
Nota bene: the comments are not to be trusted without verification. They contain the preliminary thoughts recorded when first entering the data. While they hold many useful references and citations, they also contain material that is exploratory and sometimes incorrect. This caveat is especially important for comments from the earlier stages of the project (i.e., those appearing earlier in the search findings). Information in the comments should be vetted carefully before use.
