GREek Translations from Latin
GRETL is an extensive and growing database of references to Latin terminology from Greek historiography. It can be searched by Latin or Greek keyword.
The database is being compiled by Bradley Buszard, Associate Professor of Classics at Christopher Newport University, as the raw material for a comprehensive study of the translation and adaptation of Latin vocabulary in the surviving Greek historiography on Rome. It comprises references to the Roman army, Roman religion, politics, social institutions, names, finance, and law.
While the final synthesis of this material is the primary aim of the GRETL project, it is hoped that ready access to the raw data will be helpful to scholars and students of Rome, of the Greeks living under Roman rule, and of the complex relations between the two cultures.
